Busses Changing Routes Over Cracks In Bridge

Amid safety concerns, school administrators are banning large school busses from crossing a 97-year-old Franklin County Bridge considered to be the worst in Missouri. Last week, KMOV reports, engineers found cracks in the structural steel of the Bend Road Bridge that crosses the Meramec River and lowered the weight limitations for it, from 18 to twelve tons.  With a large bus weighing 14 tons, superintendent of Meramec Valley R-III Schools, Randy George immediately put a stop to all large school busses using the route until they receive further information from Franklin County. This will increase travel time for some bus routes by 15-minutes and force some residents to take a ten-mile detour.
